Whatare callouses and corns?

A callus is an area of rough, thickened skin. A corn is a smaller, circular thickened lesion in the skin. Both are caused by similar things .

Causes

Calluses and corns form as a result of pressure or friction to an area of the foot and ankle. This is often a result of a deformity .

Treatment

  • Removal/excision of calluses/corns
  • Padding
  • Orthotic devices
  • Steroid injection- to reduce inflammation associated with the callus/corn
  • Treatment of the underlying deformity to prevent recurrence
